Doctors : Life savers or Man eaters..??!!!

PHEW!!!! at last, it is finished...

It has been around 1 month since I hav started working on this, as I was busy with II PU tution, I wasn't able to finish it early... finally I am convinced.

Doctors : Life savers or Man eaters..??!!!

Hmmm, from the times unknown, doctors have been considered saviours, with their positions being held by the people close to God!!!! Sadly this is turning out to be a contradiction with many docs bringing disgrace to this, one of the most noble profession.. .. There were times when doctors were absolutely service minded, but now many mercenary doctors can be seen almost everywhere..!!! Sadly now many doctors make poor illiterate villagers targets and make money even out of free samples(not that its not going on in urban areas). People shelling out hundreds of rupees just for a mere consultation has become a common sight now.. Shamefully, many hospitals would have set targets based on which the consultation charges are put up. Interestingly we can even get a sight of hospitals advertising "get one ill patient to us and get 10 to 30% off on your next consultation!!!!' (not on advertising boards though)

Many hospitals are also into the act of hoodwinking people around, by asserting the condition of the patient to be serious, though dead, and procuring lakhs of money from the patients family!!! (not an unknown fact now)

I would like to put forth a small incident that took place abt 4 months back..
A friend of mine working in Mindtree, used to drink coconut water almost everyday in front of the office...One fine day the coconut seller charged 5Rs more citing the reason that he was working in such a big IT company and so can afford paying just 5Rs more...!!!!

the same way the hospitals have in fact started getting info regarding the salary as well as profession of the patient as a pre requisite for billing...!!! higher your salary higher is your consultation fee...!! Most of the times its the management of the hospitals which plays a major role in such corruption and its not the doctors who are always to blame..!!!

Is a consultation really worth hundreds?? In a doctor's view it's not a very high fee, keeping in mind the struggle they would have gone through during their study n which they go through during their practice or if taken otherwise it may be because of high standards of living.. It wouldn't be wrong if said that high standard of living is a gift of the IT industry!!! It is only because of the same industry that things like "target fixing" ,"Achieving deadlines", "referral schemes" etc became a vogue in almost every field!!! people had, but now have a stronger predilection towards doctors, snatching the game away from the IT people!!! ;) Strangely this daylight robbery is not confined only to hospitals, now seen even in SCHOOLS and HOTELS...!!!!!

In recent times doctors referring patients to various scan centres inspite of having facilities in their own hospitals and getting commission from those scan centres has already come to the public notice!!! of course it doesnt imply to all the doctors.. sum refer patients to other centres solely because of the improvised technologies there...

It is gratifying to think there are still many docs who are dedicated...I would like to put a special mention about Dr.Shankare Gowda who is practicing in Mandya.. He is a man who is not prejudiced(biased) to any patient and charges only Rs 5 whatever is the illness (doesn't mean everyone should take 5 Rs).. he is quite a known famous doc in Mandya.. I'm sure he will be gr8 inspiration for the future doctors..

My question is , Is it not possible to charge a reasonable and common fee to all the diseases??...or rather grade the charges depending on the severity of the disease??? but who is to decide how to grade it?? the doctors themselves?? the hospitals?? some senior minds association ?? or common man?? the answer remains a question of debate...!!!!! :(

goot thought, I won't prefer revealing salary data outside of the working company. Business instituation like newer hostitals and their bills varies depend on ones income. Otherway it may not be possible for a physician to survive if he only gets Rs.5 per consulation. So balancing would be the mantra

are u a human or a man eater?????

well got angry????

the same is the case when i saw ur blog.....socho.....if u have a stone in the rice u eat....do u blame ur mom for cooking or stop eating?
and if u find a weed in a paddy field - stop reaping the crop and start scolding....
if u found a doc doing shit catch his neck n beat black n blue....n if u cant just stop blogging....and if u cant do either find a friend who can do that....
n remember before u comment on the negative side think twice....i will show u 1000 doctors working day in n day out for people almost all their time...can u show me 1000 the way they are in the blog....
u worked 1 month writing this....lol....take a moment to help the ones in need out there...
well lemme tell you how many people in india have a doctor to treat them on an average?

guess

its 1/20000-30000
n u are talking about 2% of corporate hospitals in india????
what about the rest 98%???
ever been to a village?
did u see any dr taking a penny?n do u know how many are getting free service?almost 60% of indian population is getting health services free.....
so before u pen.....socho....think twice.....
dont ever try to write negatives.....try to bring the positives out of everything....be optimistic.....thats a bliss and a blessing in disguise....
take care and keep in touch...

SARAT CHANDRA

My intention is neither to blame anyone nor am i here to be hurting anyone nor am i against anyone...

Im here to only voice my opinion against those doctors who charge high consultation fee and mislead people...moreover everything was written only after talks with a few doctors... and regarding what u have told about me not lookin at the positive side of the story, I would request you to hav a look at this line again.. "It is gratifying to think there are still MANY DOCS who are DEDICATED...”It would always fetch a good result if we concentrate more on the areas we are bad at rather than boasting about the things we are good at and holding our positions high!!!
Now coming to a challenge made by dr.sarat in my blog of bringing into light at least 1000 docs doing things which I have told...well, the number 1000 is a very small...I can show u lot many docs like that. If u look at ur comment u have said that there are at least 60% ppl who are getting free treatment, then what about the other 40%??? Then let me tell u, it is those 40% ppl are paying 3 times more than the actual price for treatment... So u think 40% should be compensating for the treatment expenses of the rest of the 60%???
Im not here to get into an argument regarding this...I have only presented my view points with an intension of spreading the message to ppl...with a thought in mind that at least a few docs will pledge to serve with dedication after looking at this post..

Usually young blood ppl only will have a dream, an aim to serve ppl. They dream of changing the system around them and sometimes higher dreams of even changing the nation!!! but as they grow old, as the responsibility grows they tend to stop thinking of changing the world and start working towards improving their personal lives 1st!!! the same way youngsters who will be pursuing their MBBS degrees would have many plans of serving people, plans of being honest, plans of being dedicated...but once they enter the real world of practicing medicine they tend to try becoming the same as the other docs and even better than them in that money snatching business fearing that they will be lost in the race otherwise!!!! so ultimately all the plans of service meets an end there!!!

Well I haven’t seen any doctor who works for free. NO ONE will be ready to work for free leave alone a doctor. Everyone would expect something or the other for their work..I mean which doctor would like to work for absolutely nothing after struggling so hard to get his degree for yrs together???

If u are speaking about those who work in villages on a single day basis,(free camps) i guess u would know that they will be paid by the government...they don’t do it for free!!! It was long long time ago when sum free treatment was given in villages... and now there would not be even a single doctor in the village health centers!!

Once in a while they just give a visit... if u are not aware let me tell u one thing... quite a few doctors get their rural postings cancelled by some influence right when they are doing their horsemanship.. they would have not even got their degree by then... if that is the case even before getting a degree how can u even expect anyone to serve in villages later and that to for FREE????!!!!!!!!
let me make a point specific...im not asking any doc to work for free... it is just a request to charge appropriate amount as consultation fee..
its not that I don’t respect doctors.. infact my brother, my cousins n few of my friends are docs..

Well you say it all happens only in corporate hospitals…let me tell you dat most of the villagers come to these corporate hosp even if it means getting into heavy debt. They don’t trust the local docs… so in everyway they suffer. Many not happy with the docs… try doing one thing… go about asking around 10 to 15 villagers / city ppl on what they feel about docs… u will come to know…

I need an answer for one single question… tell me y is it that salary is asked in whichever hospital u go??? How far is it going to help u in ur plan of treatment in every case??? Is it really a requisite for treatment in each and every patient and in each and every disease??

April 14, 2009 at 10:56 AM

money snatching business.....oh god...what an absurd....well let it go....ok lemme answer ur question first.....
y is it that salary is asked in whichever hospital u go???

well the basic medical sciences tell an upcoming dr in his ug life to first decide the socioeconomic class of a patient before we treat him...
a good example is the kuppuswamy classification for the calculation of socio-economic status....
Is it really a requisite for treatment in each and every patient and in each and every disease??
of course when it comes to using medicines and planning the line of treatment the answer is an almost yes in 80% of cases....
lemme tell u an example...india is a land where medicine is more of an art than a profession...its based mostly on clinical skills and reasoning...
a ct scan is mandatory in all head injury patients to rule out any pathology....but how many of us can afford it..now the socio economic status comes into play...
another example is diabetes or hypertension....
the protocol says that if ur blood sugar crosses 200mg/dl anytime u have diabetes mellitus....and if i take this for granted and dont investigate(rely on the socio economic ststus again) may be i have to treat > 75% population around me....and a life long treatment vs a month investigations...and to decide the treatment protocol..exercise, diet or drugs...what diet to suggest(again socioeconomic status)
can i advise someone earning 2500/-per month to eat a diet worth 100/-per day....definitely not...so i have to depend on his socioeconomic status to check the best line of management...

n a very wrong opinion on the dreams of medical students i guess...i saw interns volunteering to work in phc's from my own college...and many free camps conducted by doctors themselves and nearby ngo's...

inspite of struggling so hard for their degrees my dear chethan i will show u docs who are service oriented and work for free....yet only their consultation can be free...and free treatment is to date practised here....i can promise to show you...

i have talked with many yaar....yet to date they recite just one thing....atleast in my place...vaidhyo narayano harihi...the doc is equal to god...

i accept some problem with few doctors but say in general people are also not to be as they before.
In ahmedabad, there is one and only its kind of hospital, AASTHA HOSPITAL, where doctors 24 dont charge any emergency charges, reputed physician 24 hr same 100 rs to help all type of patients.
and poor patients are not charged sometimes even for their admissions

and onething that some of the people also interested that they want to go only corporate hospitals and then they r saying high bill but they know all still why they go there.
and people think that
